Afraid of Sinking Your Worship?

I remember being a radio DJ when the movie Titanic came out.  I made fun of the concept for weeks when I learned it was coming out.  “So, they’ve made a new movie about the sinking of the Titanic,” I said.  “I’m sad to tell you that I have the spoiler for you…the boat sinks!”

It was funny when I said it…but I had no idea what was in store for me.  We’ll get back to that in a moment.

What about your worship songs?  Have you changed up any of the songs you do musically?  How about the arrangements?  Are they current?  Yes, I know.  If you start modifying the arrangement, music, or words – then the “that’s-not-how-we’ve-always-done-it” crowd starts murmuring.  I get it…I really do.  Still…can you hear something different with that song that you’ve done the same way for years?  What if Chris Tomlin had never decided to do his own arrangement of “Amazing Grace”?  What about Todd Agnew?  I love Todd as a friend to death…but the original lyric’s melody is about as boring as watching a snail move in a circle…

…and then we get to his chorus.  The imagry that he gives us with “grace like rain…falls down on me.”  Can’t you feel it?  It makes me smile to have that feeling of God’s grace pouring down on me.  The song is saved.  I love it.

Isn’t that how most change is?  You either like it or love it.  That brings me back to Titanic.  3 1/2 hour long movie – about a subject I had mocked….

…and yet I loved it.  Don’t be afraid of icebergs…let your ship sail.

Want to learn more about putting together a worship service that engages and utilizes all the strengths of your worship arts department?  This November, Tom Jackson brings us the Expressive Worship Workshop to Brentwood, Tennessee.

Tom Jackson has been known in the music industry for years.  Now, he is taking his production genius to worship.  November 6th and 7th, Tom will be holding an “Expressive Worship” workshop.  This is an event that you will want to attend whether you are a worship leader, media person, band member, vocalist, or any other member of the worship arts team.  This special 2 day seminar will help you put together a worship service that glorifies God and creates a unique worship experience to help others connect.

1: Worship Workshop Classes

Tom Jackson’s Worship Workshop and Live Music Methods have impacted artists all over the world, including: Chris Tomlin, Parachute Band, Newsong, Phillips, Craig & Dean, Casting Crowns, and many more.

In this workshop, you and your worship team will get first hand teaching from Tom. Learn to create freedom in the room so your congregation can express their worship more freely and passionately than ever before!

2: Worship Music Makeovers

On both nights, watch Tom take a worship team through a rehearsal, implementing the teachings covered during that day’s workshop. Each evening you’ll see Tom do live rearrangements of popular worship songs. You’ll learn first hand how to turn “songs” into “worship moments.”

And not only will you see it done – you and your worship team will be able to take the songs home and include them in your Sunday worship service!

If you are interested in taking part in this…head on over to and get $100 off of your registration between now and Thursday,  October 22nd!  Know someone that could benefit from Tom’s course?  Send this link to them!

I’ll be there both days – and I hope to see you there as well!
