If Jesus Had A Twitter…

Yes, it is funny at first glance … but in some ways, I wonder how much truth it may have.  I find myself talking to my wife about certain people I follow on twitter – things they posted – as if their life events happened right in front of me.  I have another role in life that has me doing a bit of acting under the personae of a different name and, as a result, I have a twitter account with a few thousand fans who follow it.  It amazes me that I can post the most trivial pictures and have, within minutes, over a thousand views of that picture and several comments…all because of my “followers”.

We live in a society where “following” has become a mere mouse click.  In Jesus’ time – to follow someone…like a rabbi…meant to give up your life as you knew it and follow everything about them.  “Following” took on the role of learning mannerisms, speech, and more.  The more the “follower” followed…the more they emulated the person they followed…

…which brings me full circle…

Sometimes I am concerned that we spend more time following someone’s quick-wit in 140 characters and learning form their lives than we do following the wisdom in 66 books.

Your turn.  What are your thoughts?

Curious to hear your thoughts on "following".
