Making God Laugh
It was a simple verse posted today by one of my twitter followers – and it was a great one…Jeremiah 29:11
11For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
It was there in black and white, delivered via twitter, timeless in age, and dead on target for what I needed to hear today. The problem that I seem to face is not knowing what the plans are and trying to, instead, create more of my plans. For the record – my plans usually involve devoting a lot of time to one big project because “something good is going to become of it” or ditto with lots of smaller projects. What ends up happening? A lot of time spent wasted on these types of projects and absolutely nothing to yield from it. Why? They are my plans.
I remember my wife listening to a song on the radio one day with the lines:
Never tell a joke that ain’t that funny more than once
And if you wanna hear God laugh, tell him your plans
How true is that? My wife pointed out how funny that is – yet how true. Yet…I still do it. Now, don’t get me wrong – the verse never says “I have plans for you – so sit back and do nothing and wait for me to do it all for you” – but it does make a promise that He has plans for us…and not plans for the bad. We just have to be trusting when the times are not good that all will, eventually, be better.
